How it works

Diclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.

Usage And Safety

Dosage

ADULTS : Dosage : 50-150mg daily in two or three divided doses. CHILDREN : 6mnth-18yr , 1.5-2.5mg/kg ( max 75mg ) twice daily ; total daily dose may alternatively be given in 3 divided doses . Always consult your doctor or Pharmacist for dose adjustment .

Side Effects

Transient epigastric pain , GI disturbances , headache , oedema. Rarely blood dyshaematopoiesis , peptic ulcers , abnormalities of liver kidney function , skin reactions , pain at injection site.

Drug Interactions

Anticoagulants, antidiabetics , diuretics , methotraxate , lithium , digoxin , cyclosporin , tacrolimus , other NSAIDS , salicylates , corticosteroids , quinolones , mifepristone , antihypertensives , antiplatelets.

Indication

For relief of the signs and symptoms of Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis. For acute or long-term use in the relief of signs and symptoms of Ankylosing Spondylitis . Also indicated for controlling pain and inflammation in Acute Gout and minor surgery. It is also indicated for Chronic Juvenile Arthritis .

When not to Use

Severe hepatic or renal impairment . Ischaemic heart diseases , cerebrovascular diseases , peripheral arteial disease , CHF.

Precaution

Monitor patients on long-term treatments.

Warnings

Warning 1

History of gastro-intestinal disease. Renal or hepatic or cardiac insufficiency and haematological abnormalities.

Warning 2

On long term therapy monitor liver function , blood counts.

Warning 3

Discontinue medication and inform prescriber if there is constant stomach pain, cramps , blood in stool.
