How it works
It works by blocking the activity of entamoeba histolytica; inhibiting energy production and killing the bacteria and parasites .
Usage And Safety
Dosage
Adults : 2 Tablet or 1 DS tab or 10-20ml thrice daily for 5 days. Children : 5-12 yr , half to one tab or 5-10ml thrice daily for 5 days , 1-5 yr , 5ml thrice for 5 days . In refractory cases the treatment in adults and children can be continued for 10 days. OR As directed by your physician.
Side Effects
GI upset , dysgeusia , leucopenia , urticaria , angioedema , CNS disturbances , dark urine . Neuropathy and epileptiform seizures on long term therapy . Severe bullous skin reactions.
Drug Interactions
Anticoagulants , phenobarbital , lithium , alcohol , phenytoin.
Indication
Acute amoebiasis, Chronic amoebiasis, Hepatic amoebiasis and other systemic diseases due to E. histolytica, Giardiasis.
When not to Use
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. In addition, it should not be used if you have the following conditions: Alcohol intoxication , Habit of drinking too much alcohol , Liver disease , Lower seizure threshold , Seizures , Tingling or pain of hands or feet.

Before taking metronidazole, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other antibiotics (such as tinidazole); or if you have any other allergies.

Warning 1
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: liver disease, kidney disease, certain blood disorders (low blood cell counts).
