How it works
Fosfomycin granules for oral solution belongs to a group of medicines known as antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria, which can cause infections.
Usage And Safety
Dosage
Uncomplicated urinary tract infection in women : >18yr: Sachet : One 3 gm single dose sachet. Mix with 3-4 oz of water. OR As directed by your physician.
Side Effects
Headache , rash , diarrhoea , nausea , vomiting , anorexia , pigastric discomfort , dizziness , fatigue , pruritis.
Drug Interactions
Antacids , metoclopramide & drugs altering GI motility.
Indication
Fosfomycin is used to treat or prevent infections of the bladder in women.
When not to Use
Do not take Fosfomycin: If you are allergic to fosfomycin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine ; If you suffer from severe kidney problems; if you are undergoing haemodialysis (a procedure used to clean the blood by filtering out wastes and extra fluids, when the kidneys are not functioning).
Precautions
Precaution
Fosfomycin can lead to diarrhea during treatment. In case you have a severe or persistent diarrhea or if you notice that your stool contains blood or mucus, call your doctor immediately. Do not take any medicines which may stop or slow down bowel movement.
Warnings
Warning 1
Do not give this medicine to children and adolescents under 12 years of age because it has not been studied in this age group.
Warning 2
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask doctor for advice before taking this medicine.
Warning 3
Fosfomycin may cause dizziness and can therefore have minor influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
